About the Journey

The drive from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu covers around 450km, roughly five to six hours via the East Coast Expressway. For travelers heading onward to Perhentian or Redang, GCRIDE can arrange drop-off directly at the relevant jetty (Kuala Besut for Perhentian, Merang or Shahbandar for Redang) rather than the city centre — one less local transfer to coordinate around ferry timings.

Kuala Terengganu itself sits at the mouth of the Terengganu River, and its skyline is defined by the Crystal Mosque — the world's first mosque built primarily from steel and glass, completed in 2008 and set within the Islamic Heritage Park on Wan Man Island. In the old town, Kampung Cina (Chinatown) runs along the riverfront with shophouses dating back over a century, still home to working trades, coffee shops, and a Sunday street market.

Things to Do in Kuala Terengganu

  • Crystal Mosque & Islamic Heritage Park — a striking modern mosque and museum complex on Wan Man Island
  • Chinatown (Kampung Cina) — riverside shophouses, coffee shops, and a lively Sunday market
  • Pasar Payang — Kuala Terengganu's central market for local produce, songket, and batik
  • Istana Maziah — the Terengganu royal palace, viewable from outside
  • Jetty connections — Kuala Besut (for Perhentian) and Merang/Shahbandar (for Redang) are both within reach of the city
